Tom Abts has been the PGA Head Golf Professional at Deer Run GC in Victoria, MN for over 30 years.  Tom was named the 2017 PGA Professional of the Year by the MN PGA Section.

Tom grew-up in a suburb of Minneapolis and went to college at Arizona State University.  While at ASU, Tom took up golf and applied his former baseball skills to the golf swing.  Tom believes that coming to golf “late” in life has been an advantage to to him as both a teacher and a manager in the golf world.

Though never putting a major emphasis on playing, Tom has won a few local Pro-Am golf tournaments, and his 65 at Deer Run GC was the course record for many years.

Tom prides himself on being an innovator, and his original concept — “Fast Play Friday” — was featured in Golf Digest.  He is a former Golf Inc. Magazine “Innovator of the Year,” a winner of Golf Business Magazine‘s “Idea of the Year”, and a former “MN PGA Promoter of the Year,”
